Drug UsesDetrol is used for treating overactive bladder with symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency, and leakage. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to useUse Detrol as directed by your doctor.
- Detrol may be taken by mouth with or without food.
- Take Detrol with water or another nonalcoholic liquid.
- Swallow this medication whole. Do not break, crush, or chew before swallowing.
- Continue to take Detrol even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses. Taking Detrol at the same time each day will help you to remember to take it.
Ask your health care provider any questions you may have about how to use Detrol.
Drug Class and MechanismDetrol is an antimuscarinic agent. It works by blocking a chemical that causes contractions of the bladder.
Missed DoseIf you miss a dose of Detrol , take it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take 2 doses at once.
StorageStore Detrol at 77 degrees F (25 degrees C). Brief storage at temperatures between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) is permitted. Store away from heat, moisture, and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep Detrol out of the reach of children and away from pets.
Warnings/PrecautionsDo not use Detrol if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Detrol;
- you have urinary or gastric retention, or uncontrolled narrow-angle glaucoma.
Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.
Important :
- Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
- Detrol should be used with extreme caution in children; safety and effectiveness in children have not been confirmed.
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding: If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Detrol while you are pregnant. It is unknown if Detrol is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Detrol.
